NICU Hospital Resident Artist
Earlier in the year I was a resident artist at the @bham_womens Hospital .
Working on a different ward and hospital site for two months at a time. Initially it was about engaging patients and families in art but it soon became clear that at the women's hospital a different approach was required. Women were either having surgery, giving birth or sat by incubators.
On NICU I talked to parents about their experiences. The families said they would like to see artwork on the walls that they could relate to and may make other families feel not so alone. So they each told me something they thought would be helpful and I made nine pieces of art in consultation with patients and staff, so that they were not triggering.
Thank you to all the families for talking to me in extremely difficult circumstances, yet still wanting to help others.
