Technical Methods Week 10

Sublimation printmaking further investigation

I wanted to concentrate on layering, colours and textures today to build depth in the pieces.

Most of the pieces I created have geometric shapes but I created a few with more natural forms, by encouraging the dye to bleed together, this also created rich colours when printed.

Below image created using wax and blending inks

I’ve ordered a whole pack of sublimation blanks, because I want to create one large piece.

I’ve also been reading up on the process and discovered that once the inks are dry on the paper and then put on the heat press, the heat turns the ink into a gas that enables the ink to embed itself into the material and once cool and dry it becomes part of the material rather then sitting on the surface.
